Dear Minister Miller,
I am writing to express my support for the “Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present” exhibit at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, launching on June 26 and June 27, 2026.
The Nakba — during which over 750 000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from their homes — is a foundational part of Palestinian and Muslim history. Its consequences continue to be felt by Palestinians, Muslims, and human rights activists around the world, including Palestinian Canadians whose families remain affected by exile, displacement, and the ongoing denial of their right of return.
Canadians should reject efforts to deny, erase, or silence Palestinian and Muslim history. Public institutions have an important role to play in educating the public about human rights, including the lived experiences and histories of Palestinians.
As a Canadian, I believe the federal government must respect the independence of museums and refrain from interfering with exhibits in response to political pressure.
I respectfully urge you, Minister Miller, to uphold the independence of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and to refuse calls from organizations seeking to silence Palestinian Canadian voices and suppress Palestinian and Muslim history.
Sincerely,
