CMP Calls for the Immediate Restoration of the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia and Condemns the Attack on Rahma Islamic Centre

By August 1, 2026Statement

Canadian Muslims for Palestine (CMP) strongly condemns the shooting and vandalism targeting Rahma Islamic Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. An attack on a place of worship is an attack on the fundamental rights of every person to practice their faith in safety and peace.

This attack serves as a stark reminder that Islamophobia continues to endanger Muslim communities across Canada. At the same time, anti-Palestinian racism has become increasingly normalized, contributing to an environment where discrimination against Muslim and Palestinian communities are too often ignored or minimized.

CMP calls on the Government of Canada to immediately restore the position of the Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia and to take meaningful action to address the growing threat of Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism. This includes ensuring that hate crimes are thoroughly investigated, strengthening protections for places of worship, and implementing concrete measures to prevent hate-motivated violence.

CMP remains steadfast in standing against Islamophobia, anti-Palestinian racism, and all forms of hatred in Canada and abroad. We will continue to advocate for justice, human dignity, and the right of every community to live, worship, and speak without fear.
